In Uttar Pradesh, quality education is making a real difference, offering underprivileged children the chance to overcome economic challenges and build brighter futures. With a rich cultural heritage and strong community values, the state has great potential to nurture young minds. Recognizing this, the E&H Foundation is committed to providing accessible and impactful education to children from all backgrounds, ensuring that education becomes a tool for empowerment.
Educational Landscape and Challenges in Uttar Pradesh
Uttar Pradesh has a literacy rate of 73%, slightly below India’s national average of 77.7%, according to a report from the National Statistical Office (NSO). Around 4% of girls aged 11-14 are not enrolled in school in UP, compared to the national average of 2%.
Even though education is a fundamental right in India, with the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act ensuring free elementary education for children aged 6-14, challenges remain the same. The dropout rate for children aged 6-17 in Uttar Pradesh is 10.3%, with economic hardship, gender bias, and limited resources often cited as reasons.
The Power of Education to Transform Lives
Education is not just a basic right but a powerful tool for change. For children from economically backward society, schooling often provides the only route out of poverty. By equipping students with essential literacy, numeracy, and life skills, quality education empowers them to pursue better jobs, earn higher wages, and make informed life choices. Studies show that educated individuals tend to have better health, earn more, and contribute to economic growth, creating benefits that ripple through communities.
Overcoming Barriers Through Community Support
In Uttar Pradesh, where economic and social challenges impact access to education, community-driven efforts are essential. E&H Foundation works closely with local communities to tackle these barriers. By offering peer learning programs, scholarships, and community-led support, the foundation increases enrollment and helps children stay in school. This holistic approach not only boosts academic performance but also supports the personal development of each child.
Empowering Girls and Closing the Gender Gap
Supporting girls' education is key to breaking the poverty cycle. In regions where gender bias limits access to school, resources like scholarships and community backing encourage families to prioritize girls’ education. Educated girls often reinvest in their families and communities, enhancing health, economic stability, and educational opportunities for future generations.

Conclusion
E&H Foundation is making significant strides toward breaking the cycle of poverty through its commitment to quality education. With a mission to reach 100,000 children by 2030, the foundation is already transforming lives in Uttar Pradesh. Since its inception, E&H has provided quality education to around 30,000 children , with over 80% of these students being first-generation learners and more than 50% being girls.
Through partnerships with two effective education models for classes 1-5, E&H is currently educating 6,200 children, half of whom are girls, in the 2023-2024 period. These initiatives not only equip children with essential skills but also create lasting change in communities.
